India’s newly recruited T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is short of 39 runs to achieve another milestone in his career. Yadav, currently leading the Men in Blue in three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, is short of just 39 runs to become the second-fastest batter in the world to score 2500 runs. Notably, the Men in Blue are set to clash against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I of the series on Wednesday, October 9.

India’s talismanic batter, Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is on June 29, 2024, crossed the 2500-run mark in 73 T20Is. On the other hand, Yadav has recorded 2461 runs to his name in 72 T20Is he has played so far. If Yadav scores 39 runs in the 2nd T20I, he will equal Kohli’s record. Notably, the overall record of scoring fastest 2500 runs in T20Is has been recorded by Babar Azam, who crossed the 2500-run mark in his 67th match.

Suryakumar Yadav on verge of breaking Nicholas Pooran’s record

Yadav made his debut in the T20I debut for India in March 2021, when India clashed against England. In the first game against Bangladesh, played on October 6, Yadav scored 29 runs off 14 deliveries. Apart from being the second fastest batter to score 2500 runs, he can also become the third leading six hitter in the format.

Currently, Nicholas Pooran has recorded 144 sixes in 98 T20Is he has played so far. On the other hand, Surya has recorded 139 sixes from 73 matches. Hence, if the Indian skipper hits five more sixes in the series, he will overtake Pooran. Notably, the overall record of hitting most sixes in T20Is is in the name of Rohit Sharma. He finished his T20I career with 205 sixes in 159 matches. Martin Guptill on the other hand is in 2nd spot with 173 sixes in 122 matches.
