In a big relief to the Mumbai Indians management and their fans, their batting main-stay Suryakumar Yadav is set to join the Mumbai Indians camp ahead of their crucial encounter against Delhi Capitals on April 7. The 33-year-old batter was recovering from sports hernia surgery in the NCA which he operated on in January this year.
Mumbai Indians severely missed the services of the Mumbai batter in their first three games in the current edition of IPL as they saw three consecutive defeats before coming into the encounter against Delhi Capitals. Their batting woes appeared in their last game against Rajasthan Royals, where they faltered to just 125 against the remarkable Rajasthan bowling unit.
However, the confirmation of his place in the playing 11 is yet to be seen as the star batter will be monitored by the medical staff during his practice sessions with the team at the Wankhede. Despite a question on his availability for the next game, it will be welcome news for the franchise who is starving with the lack of results.
Last year, Suryakumar Yadav compiled the highest aggregate for the five-time champions, where he scored 605 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 181.14 in 16 games. The No.1 T20I batter smashed five half-centuries and one hundred in that season.
Surya’s availability will provide a major boost to Hardik Pandya, who is short of results in his maiden stint as Mumbai Indians skipper. Pandya was appointed as the skipper of the franchise in place of their five-time IPL-winning skipper Rohit Sharma.
