India, the inaugural T20 World Cup winners, will open their tournament campaign in 2024 with a Group A match against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 5. After losing in the semi-final of the previous T20 World Cup two years ago against England in a one-sided match, India will look to progress further in the ongoing tournament before redeeming themselves in the knockout stages.
But, for the T20 World Cup 2024 opener, the Indian team management have a couple of tough decisions in regard to who will open the batting alongside the captain Rohit Sharma. The other major point of contention is in regard to whether India will play with four specialist bowlers or put an all-rounder in the number eight slot.

Openers: Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli
In the T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up match against Bangladesh, the Indian team management gave the chance to Sanju Samson to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma despite the fact that Yashasvi Jaiswal was available to them. With that, they made it clear that the young left-handed opening batter will not start the tournament for India, which opened the prospect of Rohit Sharma walking out to bat at the top of the order alongside Virat Kohli, who had decided to opt out of the warm-up match after arriving in New York a day prior.
