After beating Oman in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener on June 6 by 39 runs, Mitchell Marsh-led Australia will take on England at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, June 8. But ahead of the all-important match between Australia and England, a rivalry which dates back to late 1800s, Marsh opened up on Mitchell Starc’s fitness.
Mitchell Starc was forced to walk off the field without completing his over in match against Oman after feeling some discomfort. The incident unfolded in the 15th over of the Oman inning when Starc was subbed off by Cameron Green after he bowled only one delivery of his fourth over. However, the physios came out to check on him, but it did not help the veteran pacer, who eventually decided to leave the field midway through the game.
But ahead of their England clash, Mitchell Marsh added that Starc is fit and that was just a cramp which was bothering him the other day. “Starc is all good. Just a bit of cramp from the other night. So, as I said, there was no unnecessary risk taken and he’s fit,” March said in the pre-match press conference.
Mitchell Marsh backs Glenn Maxwell to win matches for Australia
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Mitchell Marsh added that all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is vitally important for the team. He also backed Maxwell to win matches for Australia, which a well proven as he has done it in the past as well.
“I think it’s exactly that. We know Maxi is going to win us games and there’s going to be ups and downs with everyone in the team in this format. When you take the game on, which is what we want guys to do, we want guys to trust their ability and Maxi is vitally important for us. He bats, bowls, and he’s an exceptional fielder, and he’s a good leader withing our team. So for me, it’s always a no-brainer,” Marsh told the reporters.
The 32-year-old also added that Pat Cummins, who missed the opening match against Oman, will be back in the XI for the upcoming clash against England.
