On Monday, July 22, the Indian cricket team arrived in Sri Lanka for the three-match T20I and ODI series later this month, set to be played in Pallekele and Colombo respectively. Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of India, was spotted alongside players and support staff, walking out of the Colombo airport.
For the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Suryakumar Yadav as the new Indian captain after Rohit Sharma retired from the format, following the T20 World Cup triumph. Shubman Gill is set to be the deputy of Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is, while he will play the same role in the ODI series under Rohit Sharma.
Team India arrive in Sri Lanka ahead of limited-overs series
The official Instagram account of Sri Lanka shared exclusive pictures of the Indian cricket team arriving in Colombo ahead of the limited-overs tour. They captioned, “A warm welcome to Team India as they touch down in Sri Lanka for an exciting white-ball series! Get ready for some electrifying cricket action with 3 T20Is in Kandy followed by 3 ODIs in Colombo.”

Before reaching Colombo, the Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, was part of a press conference in Mumbai alongside the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar. The 42-year-old announced the names of two assistant coaches, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, who will be working alongside him in taking the Indian cricket team forward.
He remarked, “We will try and finalise after the Sri Lanka tour. But, I have worked with people like Abhishek Nayar, Ryan Ten Doeschate very closely. In the last two months, especially in the IPL, I have enjoyed working with them. They are thorough professionals. Hope Ryan and Abhishek can have a successful stint.”
