Team Top-G created history after becoming the first ever Indian female CS:GO team to qualify for the 15th World Esports Championships after winning the NESC 2023. Top-G took the crown with a stunning 2-1 victory against Purr-ple. Top-G comprises of Swayambika Sachar (Sway), Shagufta Iqbal (xyaa), Nidhi Salekar (Stormyyy), Dilraj Kaur Matharu (COCO), Aastha Nangia (CrackShot) and Priyanka Choudhary (ALEXAA).
Top-G won the first map, Nuke by 16 -10. But Purr-ple made a comeback to win Inferno 16-14. While both teams went neck and neck but Top-G managed to register a thrilling 19-15 overtime win on Vertigo to clinch qualification for the World Esports Championships.
Swayambika Sachar, captain of Top-G, was extremely elated with her team’s performance. She expressed excitement about representing India at the international stage. She said, “Winning the finals was an unreal feeling for all of us. We felt so many emotions before, after, and most importantly during the match and the adrenaline rush was on another level.”
“Triumphing in this tournament and representing India on an international stage is a dream come true for all of us and we aim to prove on the world stage why we deserve this spot. We are grateful to ESFI for providing us with such an amazing opportunity and we truly appreciate the efforts put in by them to uplift women in Esports,” Sway added.
Ahead of the WESC 2023, ESFI is set to organise friendlies against CS:GO teams from other countries for Top-G. With the participation of 130 countries, the 15th WEC is set to be the largest edition of the tournament to date. The tournament will also have a massive prize pool of $500,000 (INR 4.12 crore). The global finals of the 15th WE Championships will take place from August 24 to September 4, 2023.
