Real Madrid faced a mini goalkeeping crisis in the last few weeks as their first-choice goalie Thibaut Courtois was out injured for almost the last three weeks, missing out on four games for club and country. In light of these events, Madrid opted to play 19-year-old Fran Gonzalez against Valencia yesterday, handing him his debut with the senior team. However, the result did not go as planned for Los Blancos as they conceded a late winner at the Bernabeu, losing the game by a 2-1 scoreline and dropping points in what is a heated La Liga title race.
However, a new glimpse of hope has surfaced for Madrid fans as Thibaut Courtois can be seen training with the team ahead of their midweek Champions League clash against Arsenal. In a photo shared on the official X handle, goalkeeper Courtois and Endrick can be seen taking part in training drills. Madrid has also confirmed Courtois’s availability through the squad list that they have released for their upcoming fixture.
Madrid will look to capitalize on Arsenal’s defensive injuries in midweek UCL tie
Real Madrid are set to travel to England soon as they will take on Arsenal on Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the quarter-final of the Champions League. The recent defeat against 15th placed Valencia will serve as a blow to the Los Blancos, who were enjoying a fine run of form recently. However, they will be eager to shake off this bad result and put up a show against the Gunners.
Arsenal on the other hand, are also coming off a 2-1 defeat to Everton in the Premier League and have been riddled by multiple injuries to their defensive mainstays like Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timbers. Although, the return of Bukayo Saka has been a boost to the team, Arteta will have to figure out a way to contain Madrid’s attacking brilliance.
