MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings continued their supreme authority in the Indian Premier League as the side beat defending champion Gujarat Titans to win their fifth trophy. With a win, the Yellow Army equalled Mumbai Indians’ record of most IPL wins in the tournament history.
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored the winning runs for the side as he smashed a six and then finished the game with a four. He ran through the stadium to celebrate this record-equaling win. After the win, the all-rounder lauded skipper MS Dhoni as he said, “This IPL trophy is just for MS Dhoni.”
Talking about the IPL 2023 Final which was moved to reserve day after rain played a spoilsport on the scheduled day, also saw some signs of worries. Although the final started with a bang with MS Dhoni winning the toss and inviting GT to bat first. The defending champions smashed the CSK bowlers all over the park to put 215 runs target for the Yellow Army.
As soon as the MS Dhoni-led side took the field in the middle in the second inning, they were welcomed by heavy downpour, putting the finale under doubt again. But after some halt, the match completed in a rain-curtailed 15-over match with CSK needing 171 runs as per the DLS method. Although Devon Conway scored crucial 47 runs, Jadeja scored the winning runs to take his side home.
