KL Rahul, the Indian wicketkeeper batter, has made his much-awaited return to the Delhi Capitals (DC) training after attending the birth of his first child earlier this week. The 32-year-old cricketer’s wife Athiya Shetty, who is a Bollywood actress, gave birth to their daughter on Monday, March 24, which was coincidentally the day when DC played their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
In the aforementioned clash, DC emerged victorious in a humdinger by one wicket in the last over against LSG at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, which is their second home venue. In the absence of KL Rahul, who was with Athiya Shetty giving birth to their child, Delhi played Sameer Rizvi at number four in the batting, who he will likely replace in their upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at their second home on Sunday, March 30.
KL Rahul was signed by DC for INR 14 crore ahead of IPL 2025 season
Following the conclusion of the match, DC players and support staff sent out a video through the team’s official social media account to KL Rahul, congratulating him and his family on the birth of a baby girl. And now, after spending a few days with them, KL Rahul made his return to the DC team hotel before going to training in preparation for their second match of the IPL 2025 against SRH.

Moreover, KL Rahul was a key acquisition for DC in the mega auction ahead of the IPL 2025 season last year, which is going to bolster their batting lineup whether he bats at the top order or middle order. Delhi have signed him for an INR 14 crore after he was released by LSG before the mega auction last year following a tough season as captain of the Lucknow-based franchise.
