The Hyderabad police filed an FIR against former Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin over allegations of misappropriation of funds from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). Apart from Azharuddin, some former office bearers also had the case filed against them at the Uppal Police Station in Hyderabad, police said on Thursday.
The case was registered against the former HCA president, Azharuddin, and other former office bearers based on a complaint lodged by Chief Executive Officer Suneel Kante Bose. However, the 60-year-old former cricketer and current politician turned down the allegations against him by terming them 'false' and 'motivated allegations'.
Azharuddin took to his Twitter handle on Thursday and wrote, "I have seen news reports that have reported that FIRs have been registered against me on complaints by CEO, HCA. I want to state that these are all false & motivated allegations & I am in no way connected with the allegations.
"I will reply to the motivated allegations against me at an appropriate time. This is just a stunt pulled by my rivals to ruin my reputation. We shall stay strong and fight harder."
Azharuddin was recently disqualified from contesting the HCA elections over the reason of violating terms. According to the allegations, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President has diverted the funds, which reportedly took place between March 2020 and February 2023, to private agencies professedly for supplying materials to the HCA. During the procurement of gym equipment, cricket balls, fire extinguishers, and bucket seats, the misappropriation of the funds took place, according to the audit.
