Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, scored an impressive fifty on his return to 50-overs cricket during the first ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, August 2. The 37-year-old showcased his full range of strokes during his innings, to send the fans ablaze on the X platform.
In pursuit of the 231-run target set by Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma made his intentions loud and clear with a six on the second ball of the innings. He danced down the track against Sri Lankan fast bowler, Asitha Fernando, smashing him all the way over the mid-wicket boundary for a maximum.
Following this, Rohit Sharma took down Mohamed Shiraz for 15 runs in one over, which included a couple of fours and a maximum. In the 10th over of the Indian innings, he completed his fifty after smashing Akila Dananjaya for a big six.
After providing the best possible start to India, Rohit Sharma was trapped lbw for 58 off 47 by Dunith Wellalage. His innings was laced with seven fours and three maximums, allowing the other batters to take all the time in the world to get settled and take India over the line.
