After successfully qualifying for the final of the T20 World
Cup 2022 in Australia, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has taken a dig at the
former Pakistan cricketers who came heavy on top-seeded batter following poor
start in the competition.
Notably, Pakistan had a horrific start to the World Cup campaign as they suffered shocking defeat by India and Zimbabwe, but showed terrific character by remaining unbeaten in the remaining part of the competition. Even, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam who was amid lot of pressure for failing as a batter, batted brilliantly in the semi-final as he partnered with Md. Rizwan to put Pakistan in a commanding position.
While addressing the media, Pakistan skipper opined that everyone must enjoy and celebrate this victory of the Pakistan team, and also those who are sitting on television debate. Notably, the likes Pakistan legends Wasim Akram, Shoaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Waqar Younis, who are panelists of the A Sports, heavily criticised the Pakistan side for their poor performance in first two games.
“Hum log koshish karte hain ki acha khela. Koi bhi haarne k lie nahi khelta hain. But results humesha humare favor me nahi hota. Ye victory sabko celebrate karni chahye. Jo Pakistan me awam hain unhe bhi aur jo log TV pe baithe hain wo bhi (We all play to win the game. No one plays to lose. But we can’t control the result. Everyone must celebrate this victory. People back home in Pakistan must celebrate and those sitting on TV should also)," said Babar. Interestingly, Babar completed his remark with a cheeky smile on his face.
Pakistan put up a great show at Sydney Cricket Ground as they first restricted New Zealand at a low score, and then batted brilliantly to ease past New Zealand for the summit-clash. Babar Azam (53 off 42) and Md. Riwan (57 off 43) provided stunning start to their run-chase, which was very well capitalised by middle-order batter Md. Harris (30 off 26) towards the end of the game.
