With a lot of speculation going around the 2025 Champions Trophy, the final decision hasn’t been taken yet, and the ICC is likely to make a final call in a board meeting on November 29. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has made it clear that the entire tournament will be held in Pakistan, and also lashed out at the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for not sending their team to the neighbouring country for the upcoming tournament.
India have opted not to send their team to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, and proposed a hybrid model where India will play their matches outside Pakistan However, PCB also made a clear stance on hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan. PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said that it is unfair that India refused to come to Pakistan for an ICC tournament, while Pakistan still travelled to India for the ODI World Cup last year.
Whatever will happen, will happen on the basis of equality: Mohsin Naqvi
The ICC will conduct a board meeting on November 29, where they will take final call on the 2025 Champions Trophy. Notably, Pakistan got the rights to hosts the mega event in 2021, but India’s decision to send their team to the neighbouring country has put the entire tournament at stake. Pakistan have also asked for the written communications from the BCCI on the same matter but they didn’t receive any response yet.
“I promise we'll do what is best for Pakistan cricket. I'm constantly in touch with the ICC chairman and my team is talking to them constantly. We're still clear in our stance that it's not acceptable that we play cricket in India, and they don't play cricket here. Whatever will happen, will happen on the basis of equality. We've told the ICC very clearly, and what happens next we'll let you know,” Mohsin Naqvi was quoted as saying by India Today.
“Whatever we do, we will make sure the best outcome for Pakistan is achieved. But I repeat, and I am sure you know what I mean, it's not possible that Pakistan play in India, and they don't come here,” the PCB chief added.
