This year’s fourth and final grand slam, the US Open 2023, will witness India’s very own Rohan Bopanna play in the finals of the Men’s doubles category alongside Aussie teammate Matthew Ebden. The pair will square off against the USA’s Rajeev Ram and England’s Joe Salisbury in the championship match on Friday, September 8.

The duo of Bopanna-Ebden made history on Thursday after defeating the French pair of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the semi-final of the US Open. With this win, Bopanna became the oldest person to qualify for a grand slam final in the Open Era. In the previous match, the quarter-final, 43-year-old Bopanna cruised to an easy win over the American duo of Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow. This will mark Bopanna’s fourth grand slam final appearance of his career. The Indian has one grand slam title to his name after he won the French Open in 2017 in the mixed doubles category alongside Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski. With his age increasing and retirement not far away, Bopanna would be hungry to win another grand slam title.
Talking about Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, the pair triumphed over the Argentinian duo of Máximo González and Andrés Molteni in the quarter-final 6-4, 6-3. In the following match, they faced a tough challenge against Croatia’s Ivan Dodig and America’s Austin Krajicek, but came out on top 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Ram and Salisbury may have a slight edge as their combined age is 70, as opposed to Bopanna-Ebden’s 78.
