A video of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan slapping a fan went viral on social media hours before he claimed a parliament seat following a landslide win in the country’s general elections. Shakib, part of Sheikh Hasina's Awami League, contested from his constituency of the western town of Magura and won the elections by 185,388 votes, according to local media reports.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won her Gopalganj-3 constituency in a landslide victory to become a Member of Parliament for her eighth term. Hasina’s party emerged victorious in 223 seats and will form the government after the election on Sunday, January 7. Amidst this massive development, the clip of Al Hasan slapping a fan surfaced on social media.

As per conflicting media reports, the exact timing of the incident hasn't been confirmed with some claiming that Shakib slapped the fan in the video as he arrived at one of the polling stations to cast his vote. While others claim the incident occurred a week ago. The Bangladesh cricketer has not made an official statement addressing the issue yet.

Shakib Al Hasan, during his campaigning, was asked about his future as a cricketer after winning the parliament seat. Al Hasan had a brazen response as he rhetorically asked the question if he had retired. As per AFP, the Bangladeshi star said, “Did I retire? If I haven’t retired, then where does this question come from?”
