Star Indian cricketers, Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma were last seen in action at the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in Colombo. While the Indian team did not have an outing to remember as Sri Lanka went on to win their first series against India in 27 years. Moreover, the two stalwarts of the game returned to action after lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 title in West Indies in July 2024.
But as the Indian team await their next series where they will face Bangladesh in two Tests and three T20Is, ahead of that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to feature in the Duleep Trophy. According to a report published by The Indian Express, the two star players will be seen alongside Test regulars, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kuldeep Yadav after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s new policy. Moreover, the senior selection committee wants all the players to be available for the Duleep Trophy, which will be played in a new format this season, beginning September 5.
Jasprit Bumrah to be rested from Bangladesh series: Reports
If reports are to be believed, Indian spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah will not be playing in the Duleep Trophy tournament and has been given prolonged rest period. Furthermore, his participation in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh is also to be decided as India has a 10 Tests line-up in the next four months, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which includes five Tests in Australia.
Moreover, Mohammed Shami is likely to return in the Bangladesh Tests after he proves his fitness in Duleep Trophy.
Speaking of the domestic league, the Duleep Trophy is scheduled to be played in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh from September 5. With majority of centrally contracted players agreeing on playing the league, the BCCI is planning to keep one round at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It is to be noted that six matches of the Duleep Trophy will begin on September 5 and end on September 24, while the first Test is scheduled to start from September 19 in Chennai.
