On Sunday, February 23, star India batter Virat Kohli finally added another feather to his cap as he breached the 14000 ODI runs during India’s Group A Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. Coming onto bat after Rohit Sharma was dismissed having scored 20 runs off 15 deliveries, Kohli breached the mark in the 13th over.
Taking on Haris Rauf in the 13th over of the India innings, Virat Kohli added 11 runs and breached the 14000 ODI runs mark. With this, the 36-year-old shattered Sachin Tendulkar’s world record. He also became only the third player in the world to reach this benchmark in the 50-over format.
Virat Kohli becomes fastest to reach 14,000 ODI runs
The Delhi-born also became the fastest player in the world to hit 14000 ODI runs, which came in just 287 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who had reached there in 350 runs. Coming into the match, Kohli needed 15 runs and got there, joining the likes of the greats including Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.

Tendulkar was the first to scale mount 14k in ODIs and he did so in 350 innings (359 ODIs). He retired with 18,426 runs from 463 ODIs – the most by any batter in the format’s history. Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara was the second batter to do so. He reached the milestone in 378 innings (402 ODIs). Sanga retired with 14,234 runs from 404 ODIs.
