Former Indian skipper and talismanic batter Virat Kohli is on the verge of breaking a long-standing record created by Australian legend Sir Don Bradman 76 years ago. The Indian batter holds an impressive record of seven Test centuries in just 14 matches on the land Down Under. In the ongoing edition of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, the Indian batter would aim to regain his lost form and would eye new records while breaking some old ones.
Kohli entered the current series on the back of a poor display against New Zealand. However, the batter silenced his critics with a century at the Optus Stadium in Perth. With his knock, India posted a mammoth total of 534 runs on the scoreboard, and guided the visiting side to a 295-run win to gain an early lead in the game.
Virat Kohli on cusp of breaking Sir Don Bradman’s record
As the second game of the series might see Kohli surpass the record of legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar for most centuries in Border Gavaskar Trophy series history. Both batters are currently levelled at nine centuries each. Kohli would aim to score a century in the Adelaide Test, which would crown him as the leading century-maker in the series.
Not only this, but in the forthcoming match, Kohli will also aim to break the 76-year-old record set by Sir Don Bradman. The legendary Aussie batter currently holds the record for most international centuries by a visiting batter in a single country. Bradman amassed 11 centuries against England at their own home. Kohli currently has 10 centuries against Australia in their own backyard, and is on cusp of surpassing the legendary feat. If the batter manages to score two more centuries in the ongoing series, he will have the highest number of overseas centuries in a single country.
