Virat Kohli is set to continue captaining the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023 after the game against the Punjab Kings. Kohli will lead the team against the Rajasthan Royals as he took over the leadership responsibilities after a gap of 464 days. The reason behind the change was Faf du Plessis’ rib injury which he suffered during the game against Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinaswammy Stadium.
Owing to the injury, Faf du Plessis couldn’t field and as he hasn’t fully recovered, the former Indian captain will continue leading the RCB side in the upcoming fixture. Speaking about Du Plessis’ injury at the toss against PBKS, Kohli addressed the fielding situation and stated that the South African will be replaced by Vijaykumar Vyshak.
Faf potentially can’t be fielding today, so he’ll be playing as an impact player, switching with Vijaykumar Vyshak,” Kohli said. Earlier, Kohli captained RCB from 2013 to 2021 and won 66 games for the Bangalore franchise. He led RCB in 140 games in total before the PBKS vs RCB game.
Going back to the game, Faf perfectly played the role of the impact player as he emerged as the scorer for Bangalore. He smashed 84 runs in 56 balls with five fours and five sixes. Along with Du Plessis, King Kohli also batted well helping RCB put on a target of 174.
Then with the ball, it was the Mohammad Siraj show, with the Indian pacer picking up four wickets while giving away just 21 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga also picked up two wickets as the Royal Challengers registered a comprehensive 24-run win.
Now speaking about Royal Challengers Bangalore’s upcoming game, RCB will be wearing green jerseys against Rajasthan Royals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The idea behind the ‘Green Game’ was started in 2011 and since then the side has dedicated one of its home matches to its ‘Go Green’ initiatives and spread awareness about the importance of conservation of the environment.
