Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah on Monday, July 1 confirmed that former India cricketer VVS Laxman will travel to Zimbabwe for the upcoming T20I series. Team India will travel to Zimbabwe to play five-match T20I series, starting July 6. Notably, all five matches of the series will be played at the Harare Sports Club between July 6 and 14.

While the side will be led by Shubman Gill, Laxman is set to take charge as their interim Head Coach as they BCCI is yet to announce Rahul Dravid’s replacement. Although, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is set to succeed Dravid as Indian head coach, but the BCCI is yet to make an official announcement on the same. 

Speaking after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win in the Caribbean, Jay Shah said, “Both coach and selector appointment will be made shortly. CAC has interviewed and shortlisted two names and after reaching Mumbai whatever they have decided we will go by that. VVS Laxman is going to Zimbabwe,” Jay Shah told PTI.

New head coach to take charge from limited over series vs Sri Lanka: Jay Shah

During his interaction with media, Jay Shah also asserted that the new head coach will take charge from the Sri Lanka series. The Men in Blue will tour the island nation for a six-match white-ball series in July 2024, featuring in three ODIs and as many T20Is. 

“A new head coach will join from the Sri Lanka series,” Shah told PTI. Coming back to India’s head coach post, Gautam Gambhir wasn’t the sole contender to be interviewed by the CAC. Former India Women’s coach WV Raman also interviewed for the high-profile position.
