On Saturday, February 3, AB de Villiers, the former South African cricketer, revealed the reason why Virat Kohli missed the first two Test matches of the ongoing series against England at home. The 39-year-old confirmed that his former RCB teammate is spending time with his family right now, adding that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child.
In the press release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on January 22, Virat Kohli had requested the Indian cricketing body to withdraw his name from the first two Tests of the five-match series against England, citing personal reasons. He spoke to the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and the selectors about his decision, emphasising that while representing India is his top priority, he needs to be present with undivided attention in a personal situation.

Just a couple of weeks later, AB de Villiers spoke about the latest on Virat Kohli, live on his YouTube channel and said, “All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that’s the reason for missing the first few Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else, unfortunately. But I would love to see him back. I cannot wait to see him back…. But he is fine, he is happy.”
“Let me just see what he said. Bare with me people, I just want to at least give you a little bit of love,” remarked the South African before checking his phone about what his recent interaction with Virat Kohli was about.
It led to AB de Villers revealing, “So I wrote to him ‘Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you doing?’ And he just said, ‘Hey bud. How are you? Just need to be with my family right now. Then I said ‘I am doing well’.”
“Yes, his second child is on the way. It's family time…. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for….. I think most people's priority is family. You cannot judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him, but he has made the right decision,” he added.
