Indian fast bowler Avesh Khan picked up two back-to-back wickets against South Africa in the 1st ODI at Johannesburg's New Wanderers Stadium. Earlier in the innings, fellow fast bowler Arshdeep Singh also was on a hattrick as he dismissed Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen in the second over.
Th en in the 11th over, Avesh Khan took the ball as the Proteas were languishing at 52-4 and castled Aiden Markram with a shot of length inswinger. Khan, on the next delivery, produced another peach as his outswinger zoomed away enough to hit Wiaan Mulder on his pads. The decision went to the third umpire but wasn't overturned.

Notably, South Africa elected to bat first after winning the toss to kick off the three-game ODI series. Before the 50-over games, both India and South Africa played a T20I series which ended in a 1-1 draw.
After the first match was abandoned due to rain, South Africa clinched the second game with a five-wicket margin. Then in the final game, the Men in Blue, thanks to Suryakumar Yadav's ton and Kuldeep Yadav's five-wicket haul, registered a dominant 106-run victory.
