For the unversed, it was Matthew Wade, who won the toss for Australia and put India into batting first. His decision didn’t prove to be right as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad shared an opening stand of 77 runs inside the first powerplay stage.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 53 off 25, an innings which included nine fours and two sixes. Then, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan shared an impressive partnership of 87 runs for the second wicket, completing their respective fifties before getting dismissed.

The captain Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh provided a late flourish to help India reach a massive score of 235/4 in their allotted 20 overs despite the three wickets to Nathan Ellis. In defence of the big total, the Indian bowlers were very impressive from start to finish, picking up regular wickets, with Ravi Bishnoi and Prasidh Krishna scalping three each, to keep Australia to 191/9 when the overs ran out.
