The Australian team was dealt with another massive blow after Mitchell Starc suffered an injury on Day of the ongoing Boxing Day Test. After a dominating play on Day 1, the Aussie spearhead suffered an injury while attempting a diving catch on Day of the ongoing second Test.

On Day 2, David Warner was another played to suffer a blow. The veteran Australian batter who became only the second to smash a double century in 100th Test after Joe Root, injured himself while celebrating his double ton. The batter had to retire after he complained of possible cramps.

To add more worries in the Australian camp, Cameron Green who walked in after Warner retired, only faced twenty balls before walking out after injury. Green became the second batter to get retired hurt after he suffered a blow on his right forefinger which was also seen in blood.
