The English footballer was also named La Liga's Player of the Month for August, after scoring in his first four successive games this season. Alcaraz, a huge Real Madrid fan, celebrated a quarterfinal win over the Olympic champion and 2020 runner-up by copying the footballer's celebration style of extending his arms up in the air on the court.

Speaking of the clash, the match between the 20-year-old and Zverev lasted for more than 2 hours and 30 minutes. With the win, Alcaraz not only moved to his fourth consecutive Grand Slam semifinal but also reached his third major semifinal this year.

In the subsequent encounter, the Spaniard will lock horns with 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev on September 8, Friday. The match will mark the fourth meeting between the pair having also met in the Wimbledon Championships semifinals earlier this year. The winner of the match will lock horns with the winner of the Novak Djokovic vs Ben Shelton match in the finale of the tournament on Sunday, September 10.
