The Indian cricket team were dealt with a massive blow after registering their lowest total in the first innings of the opening Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After getting bundled out at the score of 46, the hosts also lost their star player, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant as he walked off the field after getting injured.

Things worsened for the Rohit Sharma & Co. as star Indian wicketkeeper-batter took the blow on his left knee in the 37th over of the New Zealand innings. As the match progressed on Day 3 of the first Test at the scheduled time, Pant did not take the field, with Dhruv Jurel continuing to keep the wickets for India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that 27-year-old will not keep the wickets.

Rohit Sharma shares BIG update on Rohit Sharma’s injury

The 27-year-old, who was seen in visible discomfort, prompted the physios to rush to the field to attend to Pant. The young Indian batter however failed to take the field on Day 3. Earlier after stumps on Day 2, Team India captain, Rohit Sharma shared a big update on Pant’s injury.  "Unfortunately, the knee. The ball went and hit straight on his kneecap, the leg he had surgery on. So, he has got a little bit of swelling on it. The muscles are a bit tender at this point of time. It's a precautionary measure," Rohit said during the post-match press conference.

“We do not want to take a risk. Rishabh does not want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg. So, that was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, tonight he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow,” Rohit further added.

Speaking of Pant’s injury, the wicketkeeper-batter failed to anticipate Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery to Devon Conway which stayed low and landed on his right knee. Pant went down in pain as he had a surgery done on the same leg after his horrific car accident in December 2022. At Stumps on Day 2 of the first Test, New Zealand had posted 180 at the loss of three wickets with Daryl Mitchell (14) and Rachin Ravindra (22) in the middle.
