One recent moment that has been doing rounds on the internet, is the celebration performed by Denmark’s Rasmus Hojlund after scoring the winner against Portugal in the quarter-final first leg of the UEFA Nations League on March 20, 2025. The 22-year old Dane scored a late goal to seal the victory for his team and went on to perform the iconic ‘Siuuu’ celebration in front of Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal team. While initially some fans termed the celebration as disrespectful to Ronaldo, Hojlund confirmed that he performed the celebration as a sign of admiration towards his idol.
And recently Cristiano Ronaldo himself also broke the silence over this incident, sharing his opinion of Hojlund’s celebration. He said, “No problem. It’s an honor for me”, reciprocating the Manchester United’s admiration towards the Portugal captain. While the result of the match did not go in Portugal’s favour, they will look to overturn that deficit and come out victorious to proceed to the next round after second leg fixture at home, scheduled for March 23..
Ronaldo determined to win second leg against Denmark
Talking on the same lines, Ronaldo also took a friendly dig at Hojlund by saying, “Hojlund doing my celebration is not a problem. I know it wasn’t out of disrespect. I hope that tomorrow he’ll be the one to see me celebrate,” referring to the upcoming second leg fixture between the two nations. Ronaldo also spoke about his determination and confidence to win the next game against Denmark.
He said, “I have lost games in 90 minutes, but I have never lost in the first half. Tomorrow is the second half,” comparing the second leg fixture to the second half. With all of this, Ronaldo and the Portuguese team seem determined to fetch a favourable result in their upcoming match and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
