During a game between Gloucestershire and Kent in the Vitality Blast League 2023, a six off Gloucestershire batter David Payne’s bat landed in a spectator’s boundary. A female spectator enjoying the match in the balcony was nearly saved as the ball was caught by her partner. During the 79th game of the T20 league played in Bristol the ball that Payne hit off for a six in the final over landed up in the balcony of a match.
In Bristol, apartments are built on one side of the ground, enabling cricket fans to enjoy games from their balcony. People were enjoying the game between Gloucestershire and Kent on June 18, Sunday, as the incident took place while the former team was at 127 runs at the loss of nine wickets. Payne welcomed the final over by hitting it for a boundary. On the next ball, when the cricketer targeted for a maximum, the ball ended up in one of the spectators’ hands. The ball could have injured the fan, but her partner’s quick timings avoided the mishap. However, on the very next ball, Payne got out after playing a short inning of 16 runs. His team came to bat first and scored 137 runs in 20 overs, and their rivals successfully chased the target with 18 balls remaining and with a loss of three wickets.
