During the Sydney derby between the Sixers and the Thunder in the BBL, Steve Smith got out for a golden duck while trying to smash Daniel Sams’ short delivery. The big moment in the contest happened after his Australian teammate David Warner, who was mic’d up with the broadcasters, sledged him in a lighthearted manner seconds before his dismissal.

After the Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques won the toss at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Steve Smith walked out into the middle with the English international James Vince to face the challenge of Sydney Thunder bowlers. As Smith was making his way to the pitchside, a mic’d up Warner spoke about his Australian teammate about how “nothing distracts him ever.”

When Steve Smith was taking guard, David Warner said on camera, “Nah, that’s not centre. To the right.” He continued, “Mate, if you open the batting mate you have got to mark it properly. One go only. Nah, he is locked in,” while Smith scratched the popping crease to mark his guard.
The first ball of the innings in the Sydney derby at the SCG was a short delivery outside the off-stump from Daniel Sams, which had Steve Smith walking towards it. The Australian batting superstar tried to control the pull stroke on the front foot, but he could only spoon it to Nathan McAndrew at the deep square leg boundary.
Despite the big wicket on the first ball of the innings, Sydney Sixers recovered to put a decent total of 151/7 on the board, with the number three Josh Phillipe getting 47 off 35. In the run chase, Sydney Thunder had Alex Hales provide them a fiery start in the powerplay but David Warner could only score 37 off 39, which wasn’t enough as the rest of the batting lineup capitulated to 132 all out inside their allotted overs to suffer a 19-run defeat.
