On Friday, August 2, Matthew Lamb, the middle order batter of Derbyshire, broke his bat into two pieces at the County Ground in Derby during the Metro One Day Cup 2024 match. The surprising turn of events also culminated with Matthew Lamb making his way back into the pavilion after the Worcestershire fielder managed to take the catch safely at mid-on.
The moment happened in the 34th over of the Derbyshire innings when Matthew Lamb attempted to lift the ball from Jack Home over the mid-wicket region. But his bat broke into two pieces upon the impact with the ball, which ballooned to Hishaam Khan at mid-on, who took the catch with ease.
With that, Matthew Lamb lost his wicket for just 13 off 19, but the rest of his teammates did well, to help Derbyshire to reach 260-run total before getting bundled out against Worcestershire in the last over. Harry Came scored 71 off 104 with five fours and one maximum at the top of the order, while Zak Chappell scored 48 off 33 with four fours and one maximum in the latter half of the innings.
Jack Home was exceptional with the ball for Worcestershire, picking up six for 51 in just 7.4 overs, playing a key role in bundling out Derbyshire to a below-par total. Tom Hinley was very good in the supporting cast, taking two wickets in his 10-over spell while giving away just 38 runs.
