Ever since tennis legend Serena Williams announced her retirement from Tennis after this year's US Open 2022, tributes have started to pour in for one of the biggest women Tennis players. The 40-year-old who will kick start her last Grand Slam campaign on Monday night against Danka Kovinic is expected to be greeted by a jam-packed crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Earlier, Serena received a wildcard for the women's doubles event, partnering with her sister Venus Williams. Interestingly, the Williams sisters have won all 14 Grand Slam doubles finals they have played together.

Speaking of unique tributes pouring in for the legendary Tennis player, fans from all around the world are recreating Serena's iconic twirl which the star player has been seen doing after most of her victories over the years.  The term 'Serena Twirl' was coined for this gesture after she started doing a full twirl after waving to the crowd.

Her iconic celebration slowly gained popularity as her stature as a Tennis player grew significantly. In a video posted by the US Open on Twitter, several Serena fans were seen flaunting their versions of the 'Serena Twirl' as a tribute to the legendary Tennis player.

While Tennis fans are paying tribute to their favourite Tennis player, New York times found itself in a hot water after one of the articles attracted controversy after it claimed that the Tennis player was 'aggressive and intimidating.'

The article further claimed that Serena's style of game became conventional on the women's tennis circuit because so many young players turn to her gameplay to win matches.

Notably, Serena has only played five singles matches this year, including a first-round thrashing by  Emma Raducanu in Cincinnati two weeks ago. A knee injury had hampered her preparation for the Cincinnati tournament and pushed the first-round match against the Briton back to Tuesday after being scheduled for Monday.
