It was during the 10th and the final qualifying match for the UEFA Euro 2024 in Group A against Georgia on Sunday, November 19, when Gavi was forced off in the 26th minute after landing awkwardly on the football pitch while controlling the ball. The moment happened just after his collision with Luka Lochoshvili at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla in Valladolid, which the manager of Spain Luis de la Fuenta described as unrelated to the knee injury after his team secured a 3-1 win at home.
Just a day later, Barcelona released a statement about Gavi’s fitness which read, “Test carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus. The player will have surgery in the coming days after which a new medical update will be released.”
