The ICC Champions Trophy defending champions, Pakistan cricket team have been on the receiving end after they registered back-to-back losses in the onging tournament. While they lost in their opening Group A match against New Zealand by 60 runs, they were then handed a six-wicket drubbing at the hands of India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, February 23.
The loss against these top quality sides haven't gone down well in the Pakistan dressing room and since then, they have received scathing attack for the same. In the latest update, it is now being reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is looking to sack the former fast bowler Aaqib Javed-led coaching staff for their flop show in the tournament.
Pakistan likely to sack coach Aaqib Javed following Champions Trophy 2025 flop show
As reported by a source close to the developments, the Pakistan team as well as the management have been hit hard of the defeat and the PCB will take stringent action on to the same. "Obviously there is backlash over the team's performance in the CT. The Board hasn't decided as yet on whether the team will have separate head coaches (for red and white ball teams) but one thing is certain the current support staff will be overhauled now after the poor show in the Champions Trophy," the source told PTI, as quoted by India Today.
The source further informed that the way the Pakistan coaches have been changed, the PCB will have a daunting ask to rope in new ones. "But the way the Board has been changing coaches and selectors since last year, it will be a challenge to find other candidates for these positions," he added.
It is to be noted that the former Pakistan fast bowler was appointed as the interim head coach in the white-ball format last year following Gary Kristen’s exit. He then took over as the red-ball coach for the South Africa and West Indies series after Jason Gillispie’s departure.
