Adelaide Strikers wicketkeeper Georgia Redmayne threw her gloves and helmets in the air after they defeated Brisbane Heat in the WBBL 2023 final. The Strikers successfully defended their WBBL title by defeating Heat in the WBBL 2023 final by three runs on December 2, Saturday. Earlier in the match, Strikers’ skipper Tahlia McGrath won the toss over Jess Jonassen and opted to bat first. She and her squad posted a total of 125 with the loss of five wickets. Laura Wolvaardt and skipper Tahlia McGrath played anchor knocks of 39 and 38 runs, respectively.

Brisbane Heat, who were playing their third WBBL final, got off to a decent start. However, the Strikers pulled their gears in the middle overs, and Heat seemed to have surrendered to them towards the end. The Strikers’ skipper earlier dismissed Mignon du Preez and Laura Harris off successive deliveries, leaving their counterparts to 62/4.

The lower batting order of the Heat delivered a poor batting show and after Charli Knott, none of them could manage to reach a two-figure score. In the final over of the Heat innings, Strikers turned to their leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington, who ended up picking two wickets to record the narrowest possible win in a WBBL final.

With their win, the Strikers became the fourth team to bag two WBBL titles and the third team after Brisbane and the Sydney Sixers to defend the championship.
