New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips played a brilliant century knock after New Zealand opted to bat first. Although New Zealand looked in trouble after three back-to-back wickets in the opening overs, Phillips played a crucial knock to help the side post 167 in their 20 overs.

But as the side came into the field in the second innings, a strong performance with the Kiwi bowlers took the momentum from the game. In the 13th over of the Sri Lanka innings, Glenn Phillips was seen in some kind of trouble. He limped away suffering a cramp as he fielded Dasun Shanaka’s glance toward the deep mid-wicket region. Phillips aggressively ran towards the ball as the Lankan batters ran two runs when he had a strange reaction pointing at his right foot.

The 25-year-old jittered away as his foot cramped up straight before limping away outside the playing field. The moment that raised concern then occurred as he ran over the boundary rope and went straight to the ground. This could possibly lead to an injury which may even cause the batter to miss the next few games for the Blackcaps.

After the match, Phillips talked about how he built innings after a horrendous start to the game. The 25-year-old addressed how he had important conversations with Daryl Mitchell. He also spoke about how he paced his innings despite facing some issues on the field.

He said, "My conversation (with Mitchell) was to carry on as long as possible, play the right possible shots, was a little difficult against the slower balls, but we managed to get to a competitive total. I couldn't put away the slower ones, but managed to execute my skills against the pacers, especially when pace was on."
