Delhi Capitals continued their winning run in IPL 2025 as they defeated Chennai Super Kings by 25 runs at M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to register their third consecutive win of the season. With this, DC won their first game against CSK at Chepauk after 15 years. Batting first, DC posted 183/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to KL Rahul’s 77-run knock. In reply, CSK could only score 158/5 despite Vijay Shankar’s fighting half-century.
Coming to bat first after winning the toss, DC lost opener Jake Fraser-McGurk in the very first over of the innings. After that, KL Rahul and Abishek Porel added 54 runs for the second wicket. Porel got out after scoring 33(20) runs, while Rahul went on to smash his first fifty in DC jersey. The opening batter scored 77 runs off 51 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes. Apart from that, skipper Axar Patel, Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs contributed with 21 runs, 20 runs and 24* runs respectively as DC crossed the 180-run mark.
Vijay Shankar’s 68–run knock goes vain as CSK suffer third consecutive defeat
Chasing the winning target, Chennai Super Kings kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 74/5 in 10.4 overs. After that, MS Dhoni joined Vijay Shankar at the crease as the duo didn’t let any wicket fall for the rest of the innings. However, it didn’t help CSK much as they still fell short of 25 runs from DC’s total.
Vijay Shankar remained unbeaten on 69*(54) runs with five fours and a six while Dhoni scored 30*(26) runs as CSK were restricted at 158/5 in 20 overs. For DC, Vipraj Nigam took two scalps while Mitchell Starc, Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav scalped a wicket each. After winning their first game, this was CSK’s third consecutive loss of the season.
