India women finally got their first win in the ongoing 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup as they defeated Pakistan women by six wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. However, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur suffered a neck injury while India were just two runs away from the victory, and she had to leave the field without finishing off the game. The India skipper was batting on 29(24) before being retired hurt after 18.4 overs were completed in the Indian innings.
For the unversed, with two runs needed of the eight balls, Harmanpreet Kaur tried to step out of the crease on Nida Dar’s delivery. However, the right-hander failed to connect the ball, and and almost got stumped out by Muneeba Ali. However, Muneeba also blundered, and failed to take a big wicket of India Women. In an attempt to save herself from stumping, Harmanpreet fell of the ground, and injured her neck while going back to the crease. The Indian skipper had to leave the ground retired hurt when Women in Blue needed just two runs to win the match.

India women register first win in 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup; keep semi-final hopes alive
After a disastrous start to their 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a 58-run loss against New Zealand women in their first match, India women finally got their first win in the ongoing tournament against arch-rival Pakistan. The Indian bowlers shone throughout the match as Pakistan women were restricted at 105/8 after the end of 20 overs. Player of the match Arundhati Reddy registered figures of 3/19 in her four overs, while Shreyanka Patil also impressed by taking two wickets after conceding just 12 runs in her four overs with one maiden over.
Coming to chase the winning target, India women got a steady start, but they lost their first wicket for 18 runs in 4.3 overs, as Smriti Mandhana (7 off 16) was dismissed by Sadia Iqbal. After that, Jemimah Rodrigues (23 off 28) and Shefali Verma (32 off 35) took India back in the match with a partnership of 43 runs for the second wicket. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also scored 29 runs off 24 balls before she left the field due to injury. After that, Sajeevan Sajana smasehd a boundary on her first ball as India women chased the target in 18.5 overs to get their first win of 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.
