South Australia cricketer Henry Hunt suffered a nasty nose injury in the Marsh Cup fixture against Victoria on Thursday, February 8. The South Aussie opener was attempting a catch at mid-off when he suffered the blow on his nose and is suspected of suffering a broken nose. Hunt had blood streaming from his nose, and he was forced to leave the field immediately with the medical staff.
The incident occurred in the 25th over, bowled by Jordan Buckingham, of the Victorian innings. Thomas Rogers, the on-strike batter, played a cut shot and the ball flew directly to Hunt. However, the opener missed the catch and the ball struck his nose as he sustained the injury. While he received first aid on the field, Hunt was later taken to hospital for further assessment.
It looked sickening: South Australia coach Jason Gillespie
South Australia coach Jason Gillespie expressed his concerns about Hunt’s injury and said the blow looked sickening. Gillespie said, “As I saw it, I started to run downstairs because it looked sickening. You could see the concern on the lads' faces. That's a worry. First and foremost his health is the absolute priority. At the end of the day, it's a game of cricket. Hopefully he'll be ok."
Apart from him, Thomas Rogers said that the injury looked scary. Rogers was quoted as saying by Perth Now, "I hit it pretty hard and I don't know whether he touched it or not. Hopefully, he's ok. Hopefully, the scans come back clear for him because he's got a bright future. He's usually an absolute gun in the field. Maybe he tripped or something like that. But pretty scary, you never want to see something like that." As per the latest developments, Hunt was taken to hospitals and is suspected of breaking the nose.
