Adelaide United star Josh Cavallo became the only gay active top-flight player last October when he posted a statement on social media. In a latest development, new footages have emerged from the moment when the footballer revealed about being gay to his teammates in the Adelaide United dressing room. The emotional moment was captured on camera in an upcoming documentary and the trailer of the same released recently which shows Australian star delivering a heart-wrenching speech and getting warm hugs from his teammates.
The documentary will feature Adelaide United across last season including Cavallo revealing his true self. Reportedly, camera was allowed in the dressing room for the moment Cavallo came out as gay, followed by warms hugs and claps from his teammates. "For all my life growing up, I have learned to live a life of lies, you know, For the last six years, I have seen struggling with my sexuality. So today, I will be coming out to the public that I am gay. I am a gay footballer," he says. The trailer of the documentary shows that Cavallo teammates lined-up to give him hugs and extend their support to the footballer.
Later in that season, Cavallo featured against the Central Coast Mariners in a game that was official designated as a Pride Game, first in the A-League's history. Ahead of that fixture, the 22-year-old revealed how his team-mates reactions left him emotional as it was better than what he expected.
"20 minutes before I pressed the post button, I was in the changing room with all my team-mates and coaches. I was very nervous; my heart was beating so quickly when I announced it. It was an emotional, something that I'll remember for the rest of my life. Everyone gave me a big hug and said that they are proud of me for sharing the truth. "What amazed me the most was those 30 seconds after I made that announcement. Me and the boys went straight back to talking about football and everything was normal again," he added.
