On Friday, April 4, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finally were handed some relief as they got back to winning ways, beating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow in the 16th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Coming into the match after eight-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS), the Rishabh Pant-led side finally ended their losing streak in a last-ball thriller as the LSG bowlers restricted MI to 191 in 20 overs.
After LSG’s win, their head coach Justin Langer addressed the press conference in the IPL 2025. Coming after LSG’s 12-run win, Langer had left the press room in splits with his gesture as he unexpectedly answered a phone call at midnight while addressing the media personnel.
Who's Maa?: Justin Langer's response to reporter's mother's call leaves press room in laughter
While responding to a question about injured pacer Mayank Yadav, Justin Langer noticed a phone buzzing as it was kept near him for recording the audio. When the former Australian cricketer picked up the phone in his hand, it flashed “Mom” written on the screen. Quickly seeing this, Langer said, “Who’s Maa?”.
While the 54-year-old then received the reporter’s nod before picking the call and replied, “Mom, it’s 12:08 am, I’m at a press conference.” Langer’s response quickly attracted smiles in the room before he finally opened up on Mayank Yadav’s injury status.

"What I do know is he's working very hard at the NCA, and I saw some video of him bowling yesterday [Thursday] and he was bowling at about 90 to 95%," Langer said at the press conference. "So Mayank's up and running, which is really great for Indian cricket, for IPL. We saw the impact he had last year. I don't think there's been a bowler in India who's bowled faster than Mayank Yadav. That's why there's so much talk about him," he added.
The Lucknow-based franchise are in sixth place after their 12-run win against MI on Friday. They will next take on defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday, April 8 in an afternoon match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
