The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 is nearing its business end with Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi already confirming their playoffs berth. With two more places available and three teams fighting for the final two places, match 26, which was played between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings saw some bizarre scenes unfold.
In the 13th over of the Karachi Kings’ inning, Lahore Qalandars' Tayyab Abbas bowled a quick delivery. With Kieron Pollard in the middle, the West Indies all-rounder smashed the ball towards to the fielder at sweeper cover. However, the ball reached the fielder, but to everyone’s surprise, Pollard’s bat was left in two pieces.
While the handle of the bat remained in his hands, the rest of it went flying in the direction of the bowler. However, the bat came to rest on the ground before reaching the right-arm pacer. Just after this incident, Pollard completed a run before asking for a new bat.
The West Indies international was later dismissed by Tayyab Abbas on the final ball of the over. Abbas changed the pace and the batter in his attempt to unleash his prowess, got a faint edge through to Shai Hope behind the stumps.
Speaking of the Shan Masood-led side, the Karachi Kings kept their hope for playoffs afloat after their three-wicket win in the match against defending champions Lahore Qalandars. As they get themselves set to face the Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi in their final league match of PSL 2024, the Shan Masood-led side will aim to register a win to seal a berth in the final four, with results of other teams also going in their favour.
