Brendon McCullum smashed 158 in first-ever IPL match in 2008
Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 22. It is also gonna send a wave of nostalgia among fans as both the teams also faced each other in the opening match of the inaugural IPL season in 2008. However, that time the venue was M. Chinnaswamy Stadium which is RCB’s home ground.
The match is remembered for Brendon McCullum’s fiery 158-run knock to kickstart the greatest T20 league in the world. McCullum went on to smash 158 runs of 73 balls hitting 10 fours and 13 sixes as KKR won the match by 140 runs. Now, after 17 years, the KKR fans will be hoping for a similar kind of performance from some of their players as the defending champions are set to face RCB in the opening match again.
