During day 4 of Team India’s training camp, KL Rahul got a step closer to being ready for the upcoming Asia Cup, after hitting a big six at the National Cricket Academy (NCA)  in Bengaluru on August 28, Monday. The 31-year-old batter has been sweating it out at the training camp, taking the wicket-keeping gloves apart from batting in the middle, in his bid to recover from the niggle he had suffered recently.

KL Rahul has been a consistent performer for Team India in the ODI format since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, scoring a lot of runs at a healthy strike rate at the number five slot. He also shouldered the responsibility of being a wicket-keeper in the playing XI, to help the team management find better balance in the squad.

The viral video of KL Rahul, which was captured through the trees, had the batter go down on one knee to smash the ball high in the air, which presumably went over the boundary ropes for a six. The most positive development after watching the stroke was the way the Indian wicket-keeper ably stretched his body without any difficulty, to potentially put a stop to the rumours of him not being ready for the Asia Cup 2023, starting later this month.

The Indian management has already drafted in a travelling reserve, the wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson, in case KL Rahul isn’t fit enough to play the first match of the continental cricket tournament against Pakistan in Group A, on September 2 in Kandy. If so, the Bengaluru-born cricketer could get himself ready to take on Nepal in the second and final group stage match of the Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
