LosAngeles Lakers’ icon LeBron James made a return to the court after a brief hiatus. The NBA superstar returned to action as his side took down Memphis Grizzlies 116-110 in a thrilling clash at the Crypto.com Arena in LA. James was away from the team for most of the last week for personal reasons and has been fighting a left foot injury as well. In his comeback game, the 39-year-old finished with 18 points, including 8 rebounds, five turnovers and 8 assists in 34 minutes.
Notably, LeBron didn’t play for his side in the Sunday game against Portland trail blazers at Minnesota. It was 45 minutes before the game on Monday (IST) that James was announced available for the game. Before the game against Memphis, Lakers coach JJ Redick revealed that he and the four-time MVP had met in the game against Portland to discuss his plan for a break.
It is very rare throughout the course of the season: LeBron James on his break
After the game, LeBron James expressed his excitement to be back in action while talking about his break. He said, “I felt pretty good. It's very rare throughout the course of the season where you can take advantage of the schedule, and I was able to do that the past week.” He added, “I felt my foot, felt my body....I did my pregame workout on that Sunday for the Portland game and decided it was probably best if I took that day off.”
James further said, “I had the opportunity to take more days and get my mind, body and just everything where I wanted to be for tonight, and it worked out.” It is to be noted that James is the oldest player in the NBA currently and is averaging 23 points, 9.1 assists and eight rebounds this season. Not only this, but he also has seven triple-doubles, which is the second-most in the NBA, just behind Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic.
