Former Real Madrid legend Marcelo was left in tears after his unintentional tackle ended up injuring his opponent during Copa Libetadores on Tuesday, August 1.  Fluminense FC ’s former Brazilian international was sent off in tears after being shown a red card in a match against Argentinos Junior in Buenos Aires.

 

The unfortunate incident unfolded as Marcelo, who is often known for his footwork was maneuvering past Sanchez. In an unexpected turn of events, the former Real Madrid star’s leading foot overshot the ball, striking the Argentine player on the shin. The impact led Sanchez's leg twisted at an absurd angle, causing a collapse on the pitch. The 29-year-old was left in excruciating pain with the Marcelo left in tears.

The 29-year-old right-back was promptly taken off the field on a stretcher and was referred to a nearby Finochietto Sanatorium for further assistance. However, the club has assured to provide update on Sanchez’s injury urging fans for prayers.

 

A very difficult moment inside the field: Marcelo

 

Notably, the star player Marcelo took to social media to express his remorse over the horrific injury. The Fluminense FC defender in an Instagram post wrote, “Today I had to experience a very difficult moment inside the field. Accidentally injured a fellow profession. I wat to wish you the best possible recovery, @luciano.sanchez03. All strength in the world.”

The club also prompted wishes for the Argentinos Juniors youngster post the match.
