The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-103 in game five of the NBA Western Conference Finals series to clinch it 4-1 and reach the final against the Boston Celtics. After their clinical win at the Target Center, Luka Doncic was enjoying a celebratory beer alongside his father before the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Dallas Mavericks, Michael Finley, showed up and unceremoniously took it out of his hands.
Luka Doncic had a scorcher of the game five, especially in the first quarter, putting together 36 points in total, his highest-scoring postseason outing, which also included 10 rebounds and five assists. Kyrie Irving was on an absolute tear in the second quarter, scoring 15 of the 36 points, while getting four rebounds and five assists in total on the night.
The Dallas Mavericks will be going to the NBA Finals for the third time in their history, and it’s going to be their first appearance since 2011. That season, the Mavericks won their only NBA championship after they defeated the Heat 4-2 in the finals series.

Kyrie's getting old: Luka Doncic after Game 5 win against Wolves
After the Dallas Mavericks got the better of Minnesota Timberwolves 4-1 in the NBA West Finals series, Luka Doncic was asked about whether the team has more experience in 2024 compared to 2022. In response, the Dallas Mavericks guard had a tongue-in-cheek response and said, “I think we have a young team, outside of Kyrie. Kyrie's getting old.”
Notably, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving became the first duo to each score at least 35 points in a NBA Conference Finals game since Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant did it 23 years ago.
