On Sunday, October 20, Mohamed Salah became the joint-ninth highest goal-scorer in the Premier League as Liverpool got the better of Chelsea 2-1, to stay on top of the league after eight matches. After the Egyptian footballer converted a first half penalty at the Anfield, to give Liverpool the lead, he joined former England international Jermaine Defoe with both players having 162 Premier League goals to their name throughout their illustrious careers.
Notably, the first two goals in the Premier League for Mohamed Salah coincidentally came for Chelsea during the early stage of his career, for whom he made just 13 appearances during mid 2010s. Following his arrival to Liverpool at the start of the 2017 season, the winger has gone from strength to strength on the football pitch, scoring 160 goals in 271 appearances over the last seven years or so.
Curtis Jones scored winner for Liverpool against Chelsea in Premier League
In his recent appearance for Liverpool in the Premier League against Chelsea, the penalty conversion in the 29th minute set his team on their way to yet another win in the new season, to stay clear at the top of the league standings. But, in the second half, the visitors came storming back with a big goal from Nicolas Jackson in the 48th minute, to make the scoreline 1-1 at the Anfield.
But, Chelsea didn’t get much time to revel in their goal as Curtis Jones gave Liverpool a 2-1 lead with a smart finish in the 51st minute. It turned out to be a winning goal for the Reds, and in the post-match interview, their manager Arne Slot said about the performance, “Many other games were hard but this might have been the hardest maybe because of the amount of quality players they have and the structure they have. We had to fight really hard to get this one over the line. We defended so strong through the whole team. There was incredible work-rate.”
