Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler, who has been out of competitive cricket for nearly a year due to multiple injuries, was spotted bowling in the nets to teammate Shubman Gill and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The 34-year-old hit the nets after India suffered their first Test loss at home against New Zealand in 36 years after the visitors chased down a paltry target of 107 runs with eight wickets in hand.
For the unversed, Mohammed Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which they ended up losing. After that, Shami was sidelined from cricket due to an injury of the left ankle, on which he ended up getting a surgery, and following a rehabilitation period of a few months, the Indian pacer was slated to make a return to the Indian cricket team earlier in the year.

Mohammed Shami reportedly suffered a new fitness issue concerning his left knee recently
But, as per the reports, Mohammed Shami suffered a new fitness issue concerning his left knee, and in his latest video from the nets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, there was a heavy strapping on it as he ran into bowl from a few paces. In the recent weeks, Shami has been training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get to full fitness ahead of the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) down under later this year.
Moreover, in the first Test match between India and New Zealand concluded earlier today, the hosts were comprehensively beaten in the first half on day five. After being bundled out for just 46 in their first innings, their lowest Test total at home, India managed to overhaul the 356-run deficit before collapsing for the second time with the bat, getting dismissed for 462 runs as their last seven wickets fell cheaply, which meant that New Zealand didn’t have many runs to chase in the fourth innings on the final day of the Test.
