The sixth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League has reached its final stage with Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 scheduled for July 27 and July 29, respectively. While Nellai Royal Kings will lock horns with Chepauk Super Gillies in Qualifier 1, the losing team from Q1 will meet Lyca Kovai Kings in Qualifier 2 who made it to the round after beating Madurai Panthers in the Eliminator.

Panthers had defeated Ruby Trichy Warriors in their last group match where they won by 36 runs. Trichy Warriors were bundled out for a paltry 100 in the chase of 137. Trichy Warriors, who had a rather disappointing season with only two wins in seven games played hapless cricket. But rather than their massive defeat, one of their players getting in a physical fight with a fan made headlines.

Murali Vijay, who was not a part of the playing XI in Trichy Warriors’ game against Panthers took the field as a substitute fielder. Vijay was made to stand at the boundary ropes where fans teased him by chanting Dinesh Karthik’s name (the two cricketers don’t share a healthy relationship due to personal reasons).

While Vijay kept his calm for a while as he pleaded with fans to stop the chant, the India cricketer lost his cool eventually as he got into a physical fight with one of the fans. Although the fight did not last long as people stepped in to separate the two, the video of Vijay’s altercation with the fan went viral on social media.

Notably, Vijay returned to competitive cricket after 21 long months as he was on a personal break. The veteran India opener did have a sloppy start to the season but he caught up real quick and scored 224 runs in 4 games at an average of 56. Vijay also scored a century (121) against Nellai Royal Kings.
