On Saturday, December 28, Nitish Kumar Reddy rose to fame after he scored his maiden Test century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the Boxing Day Test against Australia. While his ton came in 115th over off Scott Boland’s full-length delivery, it came at a crucial moment, helping India finish the third day of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test in a dominant position, trailing Australia’s score by 116 runs.

It was a special feat for the Indian all-rounder, but also for his family who was in attendance at the MCG on Saturday. His father, Matyula Reddy was seen in tears after Reddy brought his maiden Test ton, that too against a competitive side like Australia. Although, videos of that moment went viral in no time, Mutyala Reddy was seen sharing a special moment with former India cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar.

After the close of day three’s play at MCG, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s family met legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar on the sidelines of Boxing Day Test. Although, it was an emotional meeting, Nitish’s father, Mutyala Reddy was seen seeking blessings of the Indian legend as he touched his feet. This gesture left the former Indian cricketer overwhelmed as well as in tears.

The 75-year-old was visibly emotional after Mutyala’s gesture and thanked him for persisting with Nitish Reddy’s caricketing career. During the interaction, Sunil Gavaskar can be heard saying that India has found a diamond in Nitish Kumar Reddy. "We know how much he has sacrificed. He has struggled a lot. Because of you, I am tearing up. Because of you, India has got a diamond, Indian cricket has got a diamond," Sunil Gavaskar said.

After ending Day 3’s play at the score of 105 off 176 deliveries, Nitish Kumar Reddy added nine runs before being dismissed by Nathan Lyon with Mitchell Starc completing a catch. India ended their innings at 369, giving Australia a lead of 105 runs.
